Slaves of Dewey H. Jones of Sumter County, Georgia

Dewey Jones died in 1849 in Sumter County, Georgia, leaving his wife, Sophia and their children: Wyatt, Russell, and Dudley.  Dewey’s estate was probated on 12 Feb 1849 in Sumter County and the court’s appraisal and sale of his personal property included ten slaves.  The document filed with the court is very helpful in stating who purchased the slaves from Continue Reading »
